All that’s made you, makes a teacher.
Hello. We’re Now Teach.
In partnership with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT), we’re helping professionals put their years of experience to work in an exciting new role: teaching.
Many children and young people in the West Midlands grow up without ever being taught by teachers who share their heritage. Not seeing themselves represented can have a lasting effect. It can cause them to feel overlooked, underestimated and as though they somehow don’t belong at school.
Our Career Changers Programme seeks to change that. It’s exclusively for people of Black and South Asian heritage in the West Midlands who are looking to make a career change into teaching.
Keep reading to discover how we can help you build a meaningful career, and become the teacher you might have needed when you were at school.
If you don’t qualify for this programme, but are still interested in retraining as a teacher, you can
apply for our other programme via our website.
Why teach?
Your background, your experiences, your skills – all that’s made you who you are, will help make you a great teacher. As you inspire, relate to, and connect with your students, you’ll build a career packed with meaning.
Use your experience
Your lived experiences have prepared you for teaching more than you might realise. From everything you’ve overcome, to your ability to empathise and understand others – all you’ve been through will help you build a fulfilling career, and a powerful legacy.
Be the teacher you needed
You might have had teachers who inspired you. Or you might have grown up feeling underestimated and unnoticed. Now’s the chance to do for others what you needed as a child, to show belief in your students and help them realise they can achieve whatever they aspire to.
Grow and grow
There are a wide range of development opportunities in teaching. From progressing to middle or senior leadership, to specialising in pastoral or special educational needs. It’s a varied and exciting career with plenty to offer.
Change the story
A lack of representation in teaching has a big effect on children and young people. It might cause them to feel unseen and unheard, lowering their aspirations. By becoming a teacher, you won’t just affect change for the next generation of students. You’ll reshape what they believe is possible for them.
Nurture your community
Your pride in and connection to your community will drive you as you help your students grow to be confident, ambitious and excited about their future. Working with young people in the West Midlands, giving them the support they deserve, uplifting those who need it most – it’ll be an incredible feeling.
